Excelsior Hotel Ernst is an exquisite property that far exceeded our expectations. High class in every way, we enjoyed every moment of our stay here. Reception was so accommodating and helpful, and our room was spacious and luxurious. Thank you for a wonderful stay! I highly recommend the King Deluxe room, with its dark wood panels, tall ceilings, beautiful ivory wallpaper, desk, two comfy chairs, and very large bathroom. This is one of the best rooms in Cologne and I can see why! The minibar was also included in the price of the stay, which is a rare pleasure that exceeds all other hotels I have stayed at. The restaurants in the hotel are, like the hotel itself, world class. We had a leisurely lunch at Hanse Stube during our stay. After our amuse bouche we moved to a beef consommé and an asparagus cream soup that were divine. The cuisine was centered around local ingredients with combined local/French techniques, but was a step above! My saddle of venison was cooked to perfection, tender, moist, and seasoned to absolute perfection with a licorice sauce, king oyster mushrooms, spiced cherries, and a creamy risotto. My husband had a rare breed black feathered chicken with potatoes and vegetables. The chicken was a 'label rouge' bird, meaning that it met strict French culinary guidelines. The service we received was impeccable! The Michelin guide even gives Hanse Stube a nod to their high standards and quality and excellent wine list.
