Hotel San Ranieri is located approximately 10 minute taxi ride from the leaning tower of Pisa, reception are happy to get a taxi for you for around €13 each way. Reception team are very friendly and welcoming we found Milly to be exceptionally helpful. Parking around the outside of the hotel is free but on the afternoon we arrived (Sunday) it was very busy so we opted to use the underground garage at €10 per night. This was well worth the fee as the parking was plentiful and the car was cool the next morning for our onward journey. The hotel itself is very quirky and quite unusual in design. The entry doors inside the hotel are push bar and resemble an emergency exit which can be rather daunting at first. Our room was on the ground floor which we found to be very spacious and sufficient for the two of us. The bed was huge and much bigger than a standard king size. Other reviewers have mentioned not being able to see out of the window but the view was fine and who wants to look out of hotel Windows anyway! A safe is provided in the room free of charge which is always a nice touch. The hotel does benefit from a large and very beautiful garden area with many chairs, sofas, sun beds and cabanas and an outdoor bar. The 'wave' bar unfortunately isn't always manned so at times we had to wait for a drink despite ringing the bell as indicated. Later on in the evening when more guests were around the bar tender was more available. We did feel the hotel maybe stretches the staff across several roles to keep costs down and this maybe does impact on the levels of customer service in some areas. Breakfast in this hotel was also very good, lots of fresh fruit including sliced melon and kiwis, cereal and hot items such as sausage potatoes and boiled eggs as well as the usual Italian breakfast items of meats and cheeses. Overall this was a good hotel for a one night stop over.
